HOSTAGE WEEK 5 -- SIN

We had a great week in FUSED as we talked about the thing that can own us and hold us HOSTAGE from what we were created to be.  We are really excited for what is next -- stay tuned!

SIN HOLDS US HOSTAGE

• Past sin choices make us believe that we aren’t worthy or a present sin pattern, think we have to clean up ourselves first
• We realize we can never do it ourselves, hopeless
• Blinding us to the power of sin

TRUTHS ABOUT SIN

1. You have sin in your life
o Impulse SINS are often what come to mind when you think about sin. The typical scenario is: 1. I see something, 2. I want it, 3. So I take it.
o Heart Sins – Selfishness, jealousy, envy, bitterness, hypocrisy, and deceit are all sins that can be masked on the outside, but carve a hole into one's soul
o "I was sinful at birth, filled with sin from the time my mother conceived me" (Psalm 51:5)
o "There is no one righteous, not even one . . . there is no one who does good, not even one" (Psalm 14:1–3).

2. Sin separates us from a relationship with God – you are not the exception
o "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
o "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately corrupt" (Jeremiah 17:9).

3. Sin will choke you, it will make you a slave– John 8:34 -- Many people who have Jesus in their hearts have been CHOKED to spiritual isolation from sin, many people have let them be choked to spiritual death –

4. Your sin can affect the people around you.

5. You do not have to be held hostage to sin – it has no power in the light of Jesus I John1:8,9, John 8:35,36
