FUSED SUMMER PLANS

As summer is fast approaching we wanted to make you aware of upcoming events that FUSED will be sponsoring.

ROAD TRIP Details

Students will spend the week serving the hurting and less fortunate in multiple cities, and engage in worship and teach times through out the week. We will also have free time through out the week at our various destinations.

The cost for the week is $270. The cost covers everything needed for the week except personal items, and extra money for food on our fun day. All purchases are non-refundable. Please plan cautiously. The only way to recoup funds will be to find another student to fill your spot. Funds will then need to be transferred between participating parties. Quest will not refund any money.

Road Trip is an amazing opportunity for students to experience loving other people while experiencing Jesus’ love for them, and you won’t want to miss being a part of what God does in and through students during this week!

Parent Meeting:

We will have a Parent Information Meeting this Saturday, June 5th at 5:00 in The Chapel. This will give you a chance to ask questions as well as register your student. Each Trip has availability for 45 students once we reach 45 students will be placed on a waiting list.

Middle School Road Trip

Road Trip is a 5-day event for middle school students. Any student who will complete 6th–8th grade this spring is invited to attend.

All students will leave from our Lexington campus at 3pm June 27th and depart to destinations that are secret to the students. We’ll return early morning (1AM ish) of July 2nd.

Road Trip is a 6-day event for High school students. Any student who will complete 9th–12th grade this spring is invited to attend.

All students will leave from our Lexington campus at 8am July 12th and depart to destinations that are secret to the students. We’ll return after lunch on July 17th.

ICHTHUS 2010
Fused will be going to Ichthus on June 16th. We will not have our regular FUSED night as we will be taking a group of students to Ichthus. The cost is $8 if registered by June 9th and covers transportation to the event.

After June 9th the price increases to $10. We will leave Quest at 4:30pm and return at 11:30pm.

If you would like to register your student you can register on Wednesday nights until June 9th.

THE SECRET LIFE OF A DATING TEENAGER

Dating is the single most unyielded part of a single person’s life. This means it is the area that we tend to fight back against leadership and somehow feel that we have the expertise to handle this one alone. Dating is the source of fun in our teenage years and is also the source of large amounts of pain, scarring, and hurt. This past Wednesday, FUSED had a chance to laugh about how awkward dating is, sing along with some great music, and dive into signs that might be evidence that we are not ready to date. We believe dating is this great gift that God has given us, but just like any gift there is a right time to open it and a right time to keep the gift in the box. As we talked about dating we talked about some of the lies of dating, the hurdles in dating, and the pitfalls in dating. As we talked about signs that we need to keep the gift locked up, we helped lead the students in 3 ways that they can know that they are ready to date with the TRUTH that always it is their choice (Within the boundaries that their parents set) when they start dating.

Three Ways You Know You Are Ready to Date

1. You Are Willing To Date In Community –

* Not withdrawing, coupling off, becoming isolated, by always having to be together and/or alone
* Letting a leader into leading you in your dating -- I Cor 6:12 – people have become a slave to dating, the pursuit of relationship – leaders in your life can help you see the danger signs – you can’t do this alone – you will mess up – You may not like you hear and it is always your choice
* Run from hiddenness – bring it in the light, living in the light, if you are fighting let people give you advice in your dating it may be a sign that you don’t want to be known in it– John 3:19-21
* If you are asking the question how far can we go – you probably are not ready to date

2. You Know Who You Are –
*If you don’t know who you are, you probably will let this other person dictate who you are – your choices, your likes, where you hang out, where you go, what you say, what you do physically.
*If you don’t know who you are maybe because of something that has happened in the past or what someone said to you, you will be messed up.
* If you need a gf or bf to feel complete, you probably are not ready to date.
* If your bf or gf will not influence you to treat other people including your parents with disrespect the you might be ready to date
* Are you comfortable and secure with who you are? If you are insecure, tentative in your identity you should probably not date.

3. You Know Who Is In First Place in Your Life –
*Love God, Love Others Matthew 6:24, Luke 10:27 It is not fair to put someone in that position – they have no ability to be in that position.
*If you have a tendency to put the person you date in the number 1 slot in your life, you are setting yourself up to be hurt and to put them under a weight that they can’t handle – seriously no matter how cute they are or how mature they are, they can not handle the pressure of being your number 1.

ROAD TRIP 2010

Wow, we are getting excited about ROAD TRIP 2010 -- our summer trips for students. We have all new routes, all new adventures planned for this year. Here are some of the details:

What is Road Trip: Road trip is a trip where we load students on buses and we go to different cities serving the poor, homeless, or needy. Each day or two we drive to a new city with new adventures. This trip is designed to stretch students in their comfort zones, give them a chance to experience Jesus in different ways and potentially give them chances to share the hope and peace of Jesus through their actions and words. Also throughout the trip we will add special surprises of fun and laughter.

Dates:
Middle School (2009-2010 Middle Schoolers)-June 27-July 1 -Cost $270
High School (2009-2010 High Schoolers) -- July 12-17 -- Cost $270

REGISTRATION: An official registration packet will be coming out shortly, but here is a heads up -- A $50 deposit reserves your spot on the bus. We will fill one bus up for each trip and then have a waiting list until we have enough for the second bus. First ones to reserve their place get their seats reserved -- STAY TUNED for when registration opens!

SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER

We are excited for our new series that is titled -- THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER -- Last Wednesday we dived into what it looked like to have secrets that are below the surface of our lives, that no one knows about and how those secrets can end up subtely defining our lives. We had a chance to look at how Jesus' offer is to take those hidden things, those weighty things from us, so that we can be free to be who we were always intended to be. Loved the kickoff of this series, way to go students -- way to lead out!

This Wednesday we tackle the topic THE SECRET LIFE OF THE TEENAGE FAMILY where we will look at living in families that are great, frustrating, difficult, or downright impossible and give direction in how our families don't have to define our future, but instead set us up to be exactly what Jesus intends us to be. No matter your family situation, plan on coming for some fun, lots of laughter and a piece of hope to make living with your families even better.

Wow, just getting back from an amazing ONSLAUGHT retreat where we got to epxerience some crazy stuff from drill sergeants, dog food, flares, chain saws, dance parties, and random activities. But more importantly we got dive into what it mean to let the ONSLAUGHT of God's love pour into and through us. 12 students humbled themselves and gave their lives to Christ. We had some amazing memories and we will not be the same because of what Jesus has done for us. Get ready fo the ONSLAUGHT of God's love to hit the Lexington student community! FUSED -- The ONSLAUGHT Begins

ONSLAUGHT

Onslaught is from the German to mean: a furious attack or assault. FUSED is inviting our students into the ONSLAUGHT, not into a war, or vicious physical attack, but to be invited to be a part of the Onslaught of hope and love that Jesus wants to give to our schools, families, and community. We got a chance to look at who God has used in the past in making a difference in this world. We started by looking at David in I Samuel 17:4-7, 32-51. He was a young teenager who was not qualified or trained to fight and in fact couldn’t even carry the weight but he trusted God that God would help him and because of that God used him to rescue his whole country and to conquer the enemy.

It took one guy to start the onslaught, one guy, who was probably the least likely guy ever to be in this battle. What could God be calling you into to influence your school, your family, your community.

• TRUTHS from David about your life
       o He knew His life mattered and that safe and nice wasn’t the
           plan for him I Peter 2:9
       o He was confident that God was bigger than the giant or fear
           in front of him I John 4:18
       o He didn’t look at the things that seemingly disqualified him or
           slowed him down.
       o You have to pick to face your giants and to lay down your
           extra weight to experience God fully.

FUSED -- The MARCH ONSLAUGHT BEGINS

Hey FUSED we are getting ready for a great MARCH run, starting Wednesday, March 3rd where we begin the next with FUSED -- middle school will meet in the old auditorium from 6:30 - 7:30 and then finish the night in the multipurpose room from 7:30 - 8:30. Meanwhile the high school will meet from 6:30 - 7:30 in the multipurpose room and then end the night in the old auditorium from 7:30 - 8:30.

So students and parents remember that FUSED will go until 8:30 from now on.

HOSTAGE TO BROKEN RELAITONSHIPS – Clay Pots Do not be defined by the broken relationships in your life, but pick to be made whole through Jesus 2 Corinthians 4:7 –

The thing that keeps us hostage that prevents us from doing anything else with the other things that we are being held hostage by – WE CAN DO IT OURSELVES mentality – otherwise known as HOSTAGE TO PRIDE

Here is the thing pride and control will own us:
1) Pride and control says you might fail, your good where you are at, why risk – what would people think if they knew who you really are
2) Says you don’t need to ask anyone else for help – you can handle it
3) Says I deserve
4) Says I’m not worthy, I’m not important
5) Says I will think about it later

THEN there is the uglier side of pride – this is the pride that vaults us above God, this it the pride that leaves us hopeless, isolated, alone
6) Says nothing is wrong with me, I don’t have a problem –
7) Says I don’t need Jesus
Ephesians 2:8-10
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
8) SAYS I can control my life

So who is in control of your life.
IS JESUS ANOTHER VOICE COMPETING FOR LEADING YOUR LIFE or is He the voice leading your life?

The guy I knew connected with Jesus and this is what happened – Luke 18:21-23
MONEY – What is holding you back – What is in your way of saying I am willing to deal with the thing that is keeping me HOSTAGE

You can be held hostage for as long as you want to or you can be free from what is holding you Hostage, Jesus can and wants to free you– it is your pick – John 8:34-36

So it's your choice, when you want to be free go to Jesus and He will free you up -- talk to a small group leader to pray with and for you and let Jesus make you free!

HOSTAGE WEEK 5 -- SIN

SIN HOLDS US HOSTAGE

• Past sin choices make us believe that we aren’t worthy or a present sin pattern, think we have to clean up ourselves first
• We realize we can never do it ourselves, hopeless
• Blinding us to the power of sin

TRUTHS ABOUT SIN

1. You have sin in your life
o Impulse SINS are often what come to mind when you think about sin. The typical scenario is: 1. I see something, 2. I want it, 3. So I take it.
o Heart Sins – Selfishness, jealousy, envy, bitterness, hypocrisy, and deceit are all sins that can be masked on the outside, but carve a hole into one's soul
o "I was sinful at birth, filled with sin from the time my mother conceived me" (Psalm 51:5)
o "There is no one righteous, not even one . . . there is no one who does good, not even one" (Psalm 14:1–3).

2. Sin separates us from a relationship with God – you are not the exception
o "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
o "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately corrupt" (Jeremiah 17:9).

3. Sin will choke you, it will make you a slave– John 8:34 -- Many people who have Jesus in their hearts have been CHOKED to spiritual isolation from sin, many people have let them be choked to spiritual death –

4. Your sin can affect the people around you.

5. You do not have to be held hostage to sin – it has no power in the light of Jesus I John1:8,9, John 8:35,36

Broken Relationships/Disappointment

We had a great night at FUSED diving into how it looks to be held hostage by the pain of broken relationships -- girlfriend/boyfriend that has burned us, a parent who has yelled at us or even left our homes, a bestfriend that has betrayed us, a relationship that we thought would never end, suddenly ended.   We had a chance to look at our lives as fragile clay pots where broken relationships chip parts of our pots away and that when we try to do this ourselves we end up in a fragile mess of broken clay pots and we were never intended to live that way. Jesus really wants to make us whole and to not be held back by past hurts by freed to be everything we were intended to be.

THREE TRUTHS TO ESCAPE BEING HOSTAGE BY BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
2 Corinthians 4:7-9

         1. Be Honest about broken relationships in your life – you are a clay pot – identity is found what is   inside you – What are you putting inside yourself
                  a. PRIDE – I can do it myself, it doesn’t apply to me, I am
                      better than you
                  b. I will not give HIM THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THAT I AM HURTING – that lie will keep you hostage

        2. Letting people off the hook/Forgiveness – Ephesians 4:32 – Not a list of wrongs but heart that is free – sometimes when bad things happen to you the only thing you control is whether you forgive the person (let the person off the hook) – Are you letting people off the hook

        3. Do not be defined by the broken relationships in your life, but pick to be made whole through Jesus – (Nothing can separate us from the love of God – Romans 8:35-39)
                a. We all have been vicitims – are you living as a victim or as a conqueror
                b. Some of us have never felt at peace, safe in any relationship, some of you have never felt the light shining in your life.
                c. The clay pot of your life is fragile and empty without the light of Jesus shining within it.

THE THREE LIES OF WORRY that HOLDS US HOSTAGE

    • Some of us are more comfortable with relationship worry and control over relationship with God

1) You have to have this figured out now
2) You are ALONE! Pushes you to isolation
3) I have to CONTROL everything – don’t have to ask for help

Weight of worry will take our eyes off of what we could be doing, and holds us down, keeps our eyes off of looking forward.

TRUTHS TO ESCAPE THE HOSTAGE OF WORRY
1) You were not intended to carry the weight of worry alone
           a. Luke 12:22-30
2) Give over control of how your life looks – Philippians 4:6-7
           a. Dive into giving God everything and He will give you peace
3) Seek God and everything else will line up – Luke 12:31 priority problem – the world doesn’t center around us, when we Him we are free

3 Ways To Live In Freedom

1) IDENTIFY THE VOICES THAT ARE HOLDING YOUR SELF IMAGE HOSTAGE
     What are the voices that you have been called that you have lived by. Ask yourself why do you believe the things about you, did someone that you trust label you, maybe even more difficult did you let a voice form within yourself define you. It is important to know what voices have defined what you think about yourself
2) RECOGNIZE the TRUTH about YOU
John 8:1-11 – The voice of the accuser is pointing the finger at people, it is critical, it tells us about our faults, our imperfections Jesus answers this way
The voice of God ALWAYS says I LOVE YOU, is always freeing, never condemning,
JOHN 10:10 – The enemy comes to kill, steal, destroy – I have come to give you life, life

3) CHOOSE TO LIVE IN THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU
Matthew 13:44-46   Even after we know how God sees us, we must choose to live in the TRUTH about our self-image

So when you look in the mirror what word do you see staring back about you?   Do you see the words of the accuser or Jesus who simply says "I LOVE YOU"

HOSTAGE WEEK 1

We kicked our new series this Wednesday as we dived into the things that hold us back, the things that hold us hostage from who we are created to be.
The definition of hostage is: one that is involuntarily controlled by an outside influence.
So what is controlling us, is it fear, performance, living up to other people's standards, insecurity, being good enough, bitterness, broken relationships, busyness, bad choices, etc...

This week we dived into being help HOSTAGE by fear, specifically the fear of risking. (Ask Britt Pendelton about facing his fear on stage)
We looked at the story of Esther and how she got a chance to face the fear of coming out from the protection of a comfortable life into the opportunity to risk her life to save a whole race of people. Check out Esther in the Bible to get the whole story.

FOUR CHARACTERISTICS of RISKS:
• Risks have a cost – that is why they are risks – it could cost you something – we don’t have to have all the costs figured out before we risk, before we tackle the fears
Having hope will give you courage You will be protected and will rest in safety – Job 11:18

• Risk our hearts on people that have hurt us, because Jesus was willing to risk His heart on them,
He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire, He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along – Psalm 40:2

• Risk on being known, of not having to be controlled by fear of what people will think, how they will react,
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline – 2 Tim 1:7

• Risks when they relate to being free from things God wants to free you from are not RISKS, they are guarantees. When you jump to Jesus, He always catches you, I John 4:18 – Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fears. If we are afraid it is for fear of punishment and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

FUSED 2010 KICKS OFF

Welcome to the first FUSED in 2010, man we are glad you are here!

We had a great night last night at FUSED as we did a FUSED rewind, an amazing worship set, the band played MOMENTUM with FUSED dancers coming in, we got to dive into being the light into our world in 2010. We had an unbelievable small group time with tons of great discussions and reconnecting. At the end of the night 2 students had given their lives to Christ and we are getting excited to what Jesus has for us in 2010! Here is an outline of the teach and a sample of small group questions that were discussed during small group time!

THREE TRUTHS OF WHO YOU ARE in 2010

1) You matter – Jeremiah 29:11 –

2) You can really have a life that is free and not held back – Jeremiah 29:12-14
     Some of us feel like something is holding us back, maybe it is past mistakes, maybe it is past
     experiences,  maybe it is never seeing it before
a. Forgive someone
b. Don’t let the mistakes of 2009 hold you back?
c. I got to help someone forgive someone really close to them and it was amazing
d. Jesus says if you search for me you will find me, I will restore you to the place that you were always
     meant to be – that is the promise of 2010

3) Your life, your influence matters – I Peter 2:9 -- Who in 2010 are you being called to influence? What does it look like to be the light for student to be the light in their schools and around the people they do life with. As we look at 2010 we are getting ready to help students move from darkness into the light.
